Meanwhile, half your league has mentally moved on. Teams that missed the playoffs are checked out, and even some playoff teams stop paying attention. That creates opportunity — motivated sellers, less competition for deals, and managers willing to move a productive player because their season’s over. The champions exploited that. They stayed engaged when others didn’t, and turned that engagement into the roster upgrade that won them a title.

The lesson: don’t mentally close your trade window when the regular season ends. That’s exactly when the winners open theirs.

The playoff window is for the decisive, win-now upgrade, as the data shows. If you’re contending, this is when you make the precise move that wins a matchup — and when you can find motivated sellers among the teams that are out of it.
